Welcome back to Soft Girl Era: Behind the Scenes.
In this series, I reflect on the journey of writing my debut book, Soft Girl Era: Mindmaps to the Heart. In our introductory posts, I shared my intentions for this series and discussed what Soft Girl Era means to me. Today, we’re diving into the why that inspired it all.
Soft Girl Era is available on my website, hippinessis.com for just $30.
Before Soft Girl Era was a book, it was a destination unnamed- one I had to find within myself to fully step into my purpose.
I believe that service to others is woven into my life’s mission, never failing to find a heart in need. I gave my twenties away, pouring endlessly into others who I saw a piece of myself in. If I could just help them see that there’s more than this…give them hope...make them feel seen, maybe they wouldn’t have to hurt as deeply as I did.
What I didn’t realize was that this state of helping was actually prolonging my own pain; constantly reliving my traumatic experiences and poking at wounds I’d never let properly heal. That revelation prompted two things: stepping away from social work and beginning my own trauma therapy.
Initially, I wrestled with feelings of failure and inadequacy, amplified by my nervous system’s total rebellion. Through therapy, I was able to see clearly for the first time the false narratives that shaped me, leaving me feeling stripped of who I thought I was. I look back on that emptiness with immense empathy and appreciation because in it, I learned to choose myself.
And that’s what Soft Girl Era is: a depiction of my journey through myself, to a place of unapologetic self love and authenticity… a place everyone deserves to reach. My mission in this life has always been the same, what’s changed is the way I fulfil it.
Being in my Soft Girl Era means that I no longer tolerate anything that doesn’t bring me joy… This book comes straight from my own heart with the intention of resonating with the Soft Girl in you. As you go along your journey, listen for her voice, and allot space in your heart for her presence - her long suppressed feelings hold so many answers. -Soft Girl Era: Mindmaps to the Heart
I’d love to hear your experiences. Have you ever lost yourself in helping others? Let’s talk about it in the comments.
Next up in the series, I’ll be sharing how I used Canva to bring my mind’s innerworkings to life. If you’re enjoying these behind-the-scenes reflections, stay tuned!
